What is the purpose of Internal Quality Assurance?
The purpose of Internal Quality Assurance in learning and development is to ensure standards are maintained or improved. In a typical educational establishment, there will be dedicated internal quality assurance staff ensuring their organisation is compliant to awarding body, Ofqual, at times Ofsted requirements. They might also need to ensure they are compliant with other regulators such as organisations providing funding. Organisations are audited to ensure they meet the needs of learners, staff and other stakeholders such as employers. They will need to ensure the rights of learners such as accessing appeals, complaints and reasonable adjustment procedures are in place and upheld. The rights of assessors and other workers in learning and development include being supported and provided guidance regarding standards (standardisation) and continuous professional development. Rights under equality, confidentiality, safeguarding, welfare are paramount. Good Internal quality assurance ensures that learners and staff are treated fairly. All stakeholders such as employers, parents should be included whenever possible to ensure their views are sought and included in any quality improvement initiatives. The training in place has to provide learners the maximum opportunities to succeed. Both the structures in place and practice should not disadvantage learners. For example, enrolling learners that have no chance of meeting the assessment criteria due to their limited job role. Internal quality assurance also helps with identifying problems and opportunities where improvement might be required such as staff development. As a result, internal quality assurance helps with improving the integrity of qualifications, courses, trainers and educational providers. Quality assurance also make it easy to streamline roles, responsibility, ownership and accountability. When good quality assurance measures are in place staff and learners should know what to do when there are issues or expectations when engaging in educational activities.
How long is this Internal Verifier Qualification course?
We are often asked how quick someone can complete this course? This depends on a number of factors which includes your own commitment, the quality of your evidence, time, learning and assessment opportunities and your ability to study at a high level.
Candidates joining the course with evidence of prior learning and credits from other qualifications will obviously be able to complete quicker than someone without. If you invest more time on the course such as 15 hours a week then you will most likely complete earlier compared to someone who commits less time. On the other hand if you find yourself needing more time than the curse duration you can negotiate for more time during your initial assessment planning. You can also apply for extensions.
Please bear in mind that you will be required to evidence learning and participate in course activities. This is a regulated qualification that will be quality assured and monitored by awarding bodies and Ofqual. We however expect you to complete the course within 2 to 10 weeks.
